This species, native to inland areas of southeastern Australia, is one of the very best lizards for a pet. They tend to be very tame and seem to enjoy being handled. Growing to less than two feet in length, their moderate size, pleasing personalities, and interesting looks are qualities that make them very desirable. Fortunately they breed well in captivity. Bearded dragons should be fed chopped dark green vegetables and greens in addition to insects and pinky mice. A vitamin-mineral supplement formulated for reptiles should be given on a regular basis. An enclosure for bearded dragons should include a spot- light for heat, full spectrum lighting, a sheltered area and a climbing area.
